Wetland Information System 2024-25

Conservation and Management of paddylands and wetlands are inevitable for sustainable development.  To achieve this goal several programmes are being implemented across the State. Keeping this in mind Wetland Information System Project is being implemented by The Kerala State Land Use Board.

Along with the mapping of all paddylands and wetlands of panchayaths, maps with cadastral data will be prepared which will show the survey numbers of padashekharams and paddy areas. The paddy cultivating areas, fallow areas, and other land use changes in the paddylands will be analysed and the District Wetland Atlas will be prepared using GIS. The maps thus prepared depicting the geolocations of all Padashekharamas and paddy areas of a Panchayath will be provided to the respective Krishi Bhavans for display purpose. Such a database of all wetlands and Paddylands of a panchayath will be of immense help to different development departments while planning and implementing Developmental Plans. The Department Intends to prepare the Wetland Atlas of Malappuram District this Financial Year. The initial preparatory works are ongoing and field level data collection in association with different Krishi Bhavans will be done during the months of July, August and September.
