STRENGTHENING STATE LAND USE BOARD (2402-00-001-98 PLAN)
Kerala State Land Use Board (KSLUB) is actively involved in conducting studies on the judicious use of land, collection of micro level data on the existing land use, land resources, land degradation, undertaking inventories and studies on natural resources. KSLUB offers technology solutions in areas like resource based Thematic Mapping, Spatial Database Development and Spatial Decision Support System. The Department also conducts awareness programme for the public on land and water related resources. It also offers consultancy services for land use and spatial planning among line departments and LSGIs. The Board plays an important role in formulating the land use policy.
It is proposed to strengthen the Geo-informatics laboratory as a state level digital data repository, equipped with additional technical manpower and infrastructure including hardware and software facilities.It is also proposed to generate spatial data base for Kottayam district and to prepare District Level Natural Resource Data Bank for 2 districts. It is also proposed to organize seminars at various levels for LSGIs, NGOs and line departments in utilization of natural resource database for development planning.
During 2014-15, spatial data on landuse/land cover of 2 districts in Kollam and Pathanamthitta districts will be prepared. It is also proposed to develop land use model for 8 selected LSGIs from different agro ecological zones of Kerala.
RESOURCE SURVEY AT PANCHAYATH AND BLOCK LEVEL (2402-00-001-96 PLAN)
During the year 2014-15 it is proposed to continue the watershed projects at block level. PRM demonstration projects in selected 10 local bodies in the State will be taken up during this year. A NRM plan for Gayathri subwatershed will be prepared with the association of District Panchayat, Palakkad. Awareness programmes on the utility of PRM data at District /Grama Panchayat levels will also be organized. In addition to this, it is also envisaged to assist the LSGIs and line departments in the northern districts in preparing location specific resource action plans for spatial planning, utilizing the data created by PRM, using the infrastructure at Regional Office, Thrissur.
LAND RESOURCES INFORMATION SYSTEM (2402-00-001-90)
Kerala State Land Use Board proposes to launch the Land Resources Information System for Wayanad, Kottayam and Kannur districts during 2013-14 with the technical assistance of IIITM-K. An outlay of Rs. 50.00 lakhs is provided in the budget. The objectives of the project are to demonstrate and promote the use of spatial data technologies for local level planning and to provide software support for data management, modeling and operation research. It also envisages promoting R & D in spatial data technologies, technology transfer and capacity building of potential users and for linkage with users at different levels.
During 2014-15, it is also propsed to complete the LRIS of Thiruvananthapuram and Idukki districts.
